I love opera, and have gotten very used to it as a summertime Music Hall series of events. So it was fun to go to the College-Conservatory of Music this past weekend to see Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love.
Lots of great energy on the stage, some superb voices – tenor Brendan Touhy as fairly non-heroic, but growing, hero Nemorino. It is a fun and fluffy romp, with lots of twists and turns – I had not seen it before and found it delightful. Especially Dr. Dulcamara, who sells the fateful love potion to Nemorino so that he can win the love of Adina – and who ends up with the flirt Giannetta.
The bad guy, Sgt. Belcore, turns out not to be quite so bad after all, and alls well that ends well!
A bright spot in this gray February!
