Review: The Symphony on Saturday

March 11, 2007 By admin

Another wonderful evening at the Cincinnati Symphony – Paavo’s back in town – looking a bit tired, we thought. Three interesting pieces on the menu – Rachmaninoff’s Concerto Number 3, with Yefim Bronfman as soloist, was a smash hit!

Energetic and powerful playing by Bronfman – our orchestra, of course, was magnificent. I have never heard – or at least not for many years – the applause we gave Bronfman for that splendid work. We must have called him back on stage 8 or 9 times – and finally, Paavo took a seat in the back and waved him to the piano for an encore. Another brilliant piece, but fast this time.

We were satisfied by that, and willing to let him go.
Altogether a great evening.

P. S. The chocolate was also magnifique, as usual.
