Review: The Tempest!

May 4, 2007 By admin

Wow! What a production of The Tempest you’ll see at the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company through May 28!

My favorite, of course – Giles Davies as Caliban! Really a monster, not just someone acting like a monster. The other roles – especially Ariel – were also incredible. The lighting, the stage set, the pool Caliban slips in and out of. And when the monster gets drunk, everything is out of control.

It’s Shakespeare’s last play, using everything he had learned – and it shows. Humor, especially physical humor, the supernatural Ariel and Prospero’s magical powers, revenge and forgiveness, young lovers beautifully played.

Might be the best production I’ve seen at the Shakespeare, and certainly the best Tempest I’ve ever encountered.

Go check it out for yourself!
