What a great match yesterday – the finals of the US Open – Roger Federer vs. Novak Djokovic. The Accomplished Master vs. the Brand-New Number 3 in the World.
The smooth Master won, though not without much more of a struggle than he’s had in a long time. He actually presented The Djoker with 7 break points, which would have allowed the young Serb to take the first and / or the second sets. And then Darth Federer saved every one, took both sets in tiebreaks, and settled into his characteristic rhythm.
Roger now plays his opponents and history at the same time. With this victory, he tied Roy Emerson, a long ago hero, for second place in number of Grand Slams won. And has only 2 to go to match Pete Sampras. Each week, he extends his own record for being No. 1 the longest continuous streak in history, any era, any player, male or female.
WOW! I loved watching every minute of every match. Roger is already the Greatest of All Time, with much more time to go.
