Book Review: Everglades

May 3, 2008 By admin

My Florida sister loves Randy Wayne White’s writing, especially his thriller mysteries. Everglades is an excellent example of his writing at its best. He lets you smell the salt air, feel the wind, rock in that boat – and feel the evil of Izzy, the parasite energy of the guru, the fear and dazed confusion of his followers.

While I was visiting her last month, we walked past Randy’s house on the way to a nature trail – a wonderful view of Pine Island and the Gulf of Mexico. His previous career as a fishing guide shows through his writing, as does his ability to bring people to life and make us care about them.

He is a great novelist, except that he loves exploring the physical challenges and psychological tremors of thrillers. When you’re ready to unwind – this book will get you there. And there’ll probably be sand on your feet when you’re finshed.
