The Heat Is Here

June 8, 2008 By admin

We’re having August weather, and I’m hoping it doesn’t last. Way too soon – and the lettuce is already beginning to melt.

Everything else is thriving, though. So I have to learn how to fix kohlrabi, since I was intrigued with those beautiful leaves and bought a lot of plants.

There’s also a momma deer with a 2 week old fawn wandering around. She hasn’t brought her babe to the bird feeder yet, to teach him/her how to use that long tongue to get the seeds. The other deer already know.

I saw a mosquito on March 3 – haven’t seen one since. But I expect this weather will encourage them to return.

And the yard has totally belonged to all the critters and I for weeks now, since the trees and bushes are full of leaves, and all the houses and the street and the river that I can see during the winter have disappeared.

My favorite and most magical time of year.
