This was a truly hilarious right-on funny production at the Ensemble Theatre. The GATPM had two runs – April 30 through May 18, and June 12 – 26. It took a break for the Cincinnati Fringe Festival.
I saw it from way up high (you know those seats and steep stairs) during the second run. Just the right touches all around – truly the tackiest stage set I have ever seen, from the armadillo crossing sign to the beat up lawn chairs to the outfits (can’t really call them costumes) to the hair. And then there’s the hysterical pregnancy. And the case of agoraphobia and the missing son and…
The acting was great, the singing was great. A few song titles: This Side of the Tracks, Road Kill, Flushed Down the Pipes, The Great American TV Show. If there’s another play out there with book by Betsy Kelso and music/lyrics by David Nehls, let’s hurry up and find a way to bring it to town.
Truly a great piece of theater. Well done, Ensemble!
