I have not looked at Mad Magazine myself since probably the 60’s. Did look at a few my kids had during the late 70’s and early 80’s. But could not resist the September issue with Alfred E. Obama ’08 on the cover.
I was amazed at how few changes they needed to make to Alfred E. Newman to create a credible, if freckled, Obama. Who is holding a banner Yes We Can’t. A real turn-off. But there is a nice smile on the face.
Inside, the only other Barack sighting (which looks, feature for feature, just like the 60’s, including Spy vs. Spy) is on page 11 – a purported movie poster of Barack Obama, The 46-year-old Political Virgin – He’s Come Too Soon. And then lots of other sarcasm in the fine print on real movie posters. An excellent picture, however!
John McCain gets his movie poster way back on page 41: No Country for Old Men – A Frightening Sequel to the Bush Presidency. At the top: Running the Nation? This Guy Shouldn’t Even Be Driving. And there’s sort of a shaded pix way in the background, with eyes that look way to close together.
It’s probably good to know that some things never change: Mad is still happily hanging out in the sixties.
