It’s almost time! President Obama will be inaugurated next Tuesday! So, now that my Christmas reading is over, I am immersed in Barack magazines again. Rolling Stones has a commemorative edition out, with their complete (and many) interviews, tons of photos, campaign stuff, and his most important speeches. Essence and Ebony also have collector’s editions out. I chose the Essence with Michelle on the cover.
Barack is on every cover around – I have a couple of dozen by now. I particularly like Men’s Health, with Barack as one of 20 Heroes of Health and Fitness. In 2009 issues, I found Barack on the cover of The Atlantic and The Economist. Since I hadn’t read either for a while, I decided to pick them up. The lead story in the Special State of the Union issue of The Atlantic is – The End of White America?, with the title partly on Barack’s face. Plus – the cover is in black and white, except for his face, and there’s a story tagline: Michelle Obama in Black and White. I just haven’t paid enough attention to know their politics, but I expect I’ll find out soon.
I know The Economist bills itself as balanced – I’ve always found it to be more conservative / Republican / corporate than human. Looks like there is not a story about him – but since the issue’s theme is The World in 2009, they put him on the cover to make sure they sell out the run, I expect.
Barack may be able to buoy up the economy all by himself – with all the stuff, all the magazines, and now every newspaper in the country selling commemorative packages of issues and goodies. Let’s hope so!
