Review: Little Town of Spirals

January 14, 2009 By admin

The wonderful Cynthia Matyi – singer and player of wonderful Irish tunes, and painter in the Celtic style – has produced a wonderful children’s book that I bought for myself for Christmas. I also bought one for the daughter / granddaughter of friends of mine.

Little Town of Spirals is in many ways Ireland brought to life – those mountains, those curly sheep, the thatched roofs with spirals all over the place. This town has ‘a band whose sound is round’ – it all comes out as spirals! It’s easy to recognize Cindy’s style, all those almond eyed Celtic faces, yet with all kinds of diversity in the people of this little town. Everyone who looks at it seems to find a page or two all their own. My favorite, since I’ve been a member of a dream group for many years, is ‘Mother Moon sends out her golden threads, spinning lovely dreams in sleepy heads’. Even the cat is yawning.

Her website is cynthiamatyi.com – check it out! St. Patrick’s Day is coming up, after all!
