My last Christmas book of 2009 is The Spy Who Came for Christmas by David Morrell. It definitely was nearly the best – I give that title to Anne Perry’s A Christmas Projmise.
But Spy is a very good book. A good story. Human characters. A spy on the run from his team, to save the baby who might bring peace to the middle east. And in a spiritual twist, the baby may be guiding the spy. An excellent family providing shelter for that babe on Christmas – a battered wife, a disabled child. The despicable batterer showing up, nearly spoiling it all. And a curious tie between the hunter and hunted. The spy is a good guy, and excellent at his craft. With Santa Fe’s Canyon Road Christmas walk, full of revelers, as the backdrop.
A Christmas thriller – who would have thought it could be so good?
