Chinese Women at the Australian Open

There were a lot more Chinese tennis players than 2 at the Australian Open – but for the first time ever, two Chinese women made it to the semifinals. They each lost their matches – Li Na beat Venus Williams in the quarters and was beaten by her sister Serena in the semifinals, in a wild match. Zheng Jie lost badly to Justine Henin in a very lopsided match. But to be the first in your country ever to have gotten there – quite an achievement.

And – more people in China watched those matches than there are people in the U.S.
