The squirrels had been trying for several years to take apart the long skinny birdfeeder I use for Newtown Special Mix (from Newtown Feed – my favorite!) – big seeds, peanuts, sunflower seeds. All the bigger birds love it, and so do the flicker and the downy woodpeckers. Plus most of the migrators.
A couple of weeks ago, just as the snow was beginning to melt, I noticed that one of the rambunctious characters had gotten it off the triple hook, and was wrestling with it on the ground. By the time I finished what I was doing, and got outside – s/he had taken it totally apart, and sprinted off into the woods with the very bottom piece, to which had been frozen some seeds and nuts. All the other pieces were scattered.
When I went out to buy a new one – most of the birds using it are just not ground feeders, and I was missing them – Newtown’s friendly family reminded me of the lifetime guarantee, and that I could bring the pieces back, and they’d either fix it or get me a new one. I bought one anyway, and when I get the other fixed, I’ll have one for the front yard. So folk who come for readings and healing work will be able to watch all the diners.
I am so blessed in my wonderful yard and all the great flora and fauna that inhabit it. Aaahhhhh!
