The Writer’s Almanac, with Garrison Keillor, has always been one of my favorites – but I could seldom manage to catch it on VXU. It’s just a little 5 minute show, isn’t even listed on their schedules, and almost seems to come on at random, depending on what else is going on. Then Mary let me know that I could sign up for it as a daily email. So I did.
It arrives, I click on ‘Listen’ and Voila! Just the perfect thing for stretching and excercising to – which really takes two Almanacs. So far, I’ve missed it enough mornings that I can just find a second unheard one and click on that to finish up. I’ve already figured out strategies in case I run out of them. I could re-listen – since they’re often full of nuance, that should work. Or I could go on their website and find the archives.
I love the discussion of what happened on this day other years, the list of who was born on this day (so many Piscean writers!), the reading of the poem – occasionally a well known but, but mostly not – and sometimes off the wall.
Another Aaaahhhh experience – each morning! americanpublicmedia.org
