Play Review: The Marvelous Wonderettes

May 19, 2010 By admin

This fun and very telling play has had it’s run extended twice! It’s at the Ensemble, and was on my list because it’s all about the high school class of 1968 – which was when I graduated!

The entire story is told through the songs chosen by 4 girl singers. Turns out to be a marvelous way to write a play. First act is 1958 – all those songs I danced to and fell in love to. The two best friends who are fighting over the same boy, the ditzy and hopeful blonde, the organized one who wears glasses. Great humor, great timing, great staging. This fluffy -appearing play is extremely well done!

Act 2 happens 10 years later – 1968. Lots has happened to our heroines. And they’re back for their 10 year reunion. Marriage gone bad, a hopeful new marriage, a baby on the way- and no marriage at all for the sexiest one. Music from a mixed group of eras.

Fun and silly, with a whole lot of truth. You’ll love it, too! You’ve still got time to get there.
