I love the Fringe – the Cincinnati Fringe Festival – which this year has the subtitle of 12 days of explosive and experimental art. There is the Visual Fringe, in the Chidlaw Gallery at the Art Academy. And there is Film Fringe, which will run at Media Bridges on the 6th and 10th. All great stuff.
But the performance creations are where it’s at. Every kind of play, monologue, comedy, drama, improv, puppets, music, dance, featuring interdisciplinary, solo, ensemble, collaborative works with women’s, lgbt, African-American, Jewish and Hispanic themes, some with adult content, some teen friendly, much family friendly.
The Fringe performances, running from June 1 through 12, is packed with everything you can think of. Some of it will be outrageous, some of it will be painful to watch, some will be totally professional, some less so, some will be hysterically funny – and some you just won’t get. And these performances will be held in so many Over-the-Rhine spaces that I’ve written times in my Schedule, so I can figure out if I can get from here to there in time.
If you’re not looking for main stream time tested theater, but are looking for something more edgy – show up at the Fringe. I’ll see you there! We’ll have a terrific time!
