This is now, of course, in the new age movement, an old book. The Four Agreements by Don Miquel Ruiz (M.D. mentioned in the copyright) was actually published in 1997. I have known of the Agreements for a long time, but had never actually read the book.
Here they are: Be Impeccable with Your Word. Don’t Take Anything Personally. Don’t Make Assumptions. Always Do Your Best.
Aren’t they wonderful? And don’t they really take most of the anxiety right out of life?
When the book showed up on the Give Away Table at Reiki Healing Circle a couple of months ago, I decided it was time. But after wandering around in a few pages scattered here and there, I find I’m not going to read it. I’ve already used these ideas, individually and together, for musing and meditating on. I like them. I know they are correct and truthful and beautiful guiding statements.
The rest is commentary. Very good commentary. I’m sure I would totally agree with nearly everything in the book. Maybe that’s why it’s not on my list to read. Although I do read books I agree with. Maybe it’s because I feel I’ve already inhaled the book. It’s in me. And that’s enough.
