Being a major fan, I occasionally wander onto Roger Federer’s website, with more fans than any sports hero in the world, except for two soccer / football players. In his store, I saw a jigsaw puzzle of Roger – looked terrific. So I intended to buy myself one for my birthday this year.
I hadn’t gotten around to that, so a couple of weeks ago I returned to the site and to the store, and started the purchase process. The puzzle was a bit steep – $33 in dollars and whatever in Euros. But it was for my birthday and the proceeds go to Roger’s foundation for kids, so of course I said yes. All was well until I got to the mailing costs. $47!
I knew that must be a mistake, so hit the contact us button, and raised the question. In actual point of fact, according to the email I received in return – the cost to ship a jigsaw puzzle from Switzerland to the US is $47. Does this make any sense? It can’t weigh more than a pound. But it can’t be purchased here. So I’m feeling stuck.
I’ve often purchased items from amazon.com.uk – Irish goods of various kinds, mostly. Shipping costs always seem pretty ordinary, considering. $10 or $15, maybe even $20 once upon a time.
No real explanation from Roger’s website – just that the cost is $47. Period. So I’m waiting for my intuition to bring the puzzle to me. Maybe find a way to get the puzzle purchased by a friend who will be in Europe for long enough to have the puzzle delivered. Then they can bring it back hopefully in their luggage.
I really want that puzzle! : > Come on, Intuition!
