I’ve missed the last two classes, but there are two more to go – and I’m hoping the Irish Heritage Center will start another series of classes soon. I’m actually beginning to get the pronunciation and the rhythm. And the teacher just sent an email with what they’ve done the last two weeks – the days of the week, months, and holidays. So now I’ll be able to wish everyone Happy Christmas – Noillaig shona duit, and Happy New Year – Athbhliain faoi mhaise duit. The pronunciation is way easier than the spelling.
Christmas itself is Nollaig, pronounced NULL-ig. And Christmas Eve is Oiche Nollag – EE-hah NULL-ug. Irish (called Gaeilge by the Celts) turns almost everything around.
I’m so glad I gave my self this present!
