Book Review: The Good Husband of Zebra Drive

November 9, 2010 By admin

I love this Alexander McCall Smith series, featuring Mma Precious Ramotswe, her good husband Mr. J. L. B. Matekoni, her assistant Mma Makutsi, the apprentices – and, very importantly, Botswana and Africa.

The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency began when Mma Ramotswe was at a low ebb in her life, and is now a thriving institution in Tlokweng Road. These are gentle mysteries, the figuring out of large and small confusions and misunderstandings. In The Good Husband, the mysteries involve a hospital, photographs telling or not telling of an affair, and the re-settling of Mma Ramotswe?s most important relationships.

The others of McCall Smith?s series have not grabbed my attention to this extent, but the colors, smells and sounds of Africa surrounding these wonderful characters are a pure delight to my body, mind and spirit.
