Old and not very pretty white guys. Deciding they are totally sexy and alluring, and deciding that every woman in the room is only pretending to be dis-interested.
Hard to imagine anything more disgusting than Maureen Dowd’s description in the New York Times last week of Dominique Strauss – Kahn as a fat wrinkly old satyr chasing and then dragging a member of the housekeeping staff around the room. Disgusting on so many levels.
Women are clearly objects to them. The power imbalance is glaring. And that kind of arrogance is nearly as disgusting as the physically overbearing behavior.
I noticed it, though, at City Hall back in the day. Power is very sexy. Many women flocked around and were pretty clearly available to powerful guys. And many of the men were pretty clearly willing to accept as their god-given right all those perks.
There were two guys in City Hall with whom I would not get on an elevator. Of course, walking those dished out marble stairs from over 100 years of feet climbing them is great exercise – and a clear reminder that tempus fugit (time flies). Would that the guys had gotten that message.
