I’ve kept my cell phone on vibrate since late winter. It’s just much easier than turning it on and off, or turning the ringer up or down. Sometimes, if the phone is resting on a hard surface, I will hear the vibration. Sometimes I’ll feel it, if it’s in my purse or my pocket. And sometimes I just know it’s ringing, or about to ring.
The other day, when my friend Karla wanted to know where I was – we were meeting down at the Fringe for a production – my phone rang. First time in months. It was still in vibrate mode. But when Karla wanted to be sure she got through to me, that phone rang!
This is how I know that the laws of the physical world are immutable and unchangeable. Until we need them to change – for healing, for learning and growing – or just to be sure we aren’t going to get lost in a neighborhood we don’t know much about.
And, of course, the phone hasn’t rung since. No one else has needed to suspend the rules just for a bit to get through to me.
