We all need to develop strategies to keep ourselves calm and on our paths. One understanding I’ve come to is this: our intuition, our emotions and our creativity all come from the same Source, the same place in ourSelves.
So when we’re unfocused, scattered, uneasy, tipping on the edge of depression – we can use one of these ways of being to re-Center. For instance – if we’re having an emotional melt down: go play that piano, paint a painting (or maybe a wall), write a poem about the feelings, follow our intuition into the great outdoors.
If creativity is not arriving when that project is due, a three minute meditation at your computer will settle your head, heart and belly and turn off your brain enough so that the marketing idea pops right out! All while everyone else thinks you’re working hard and doing research.
When our intuition has sent information into our bodies or our minds that our processing has jangled (probably our left brain wants to argue) – we can bring back an emotional memory of when we were calm and happy, maybe with that good tired of hiking. Or we can get our hands creatively busy with clay, maybe cross stitch, maybe working in the garden.
Lo and Behold, when the task is done and we turn our brains back on – clarity reigns, we can integrate what we’ve gotten intuitively, and all is well.
To me, a big part of spiritual growth is simply learning what strategies work for us, so that we do not get into big feedback loops of worry and building worst case scenarios. We need to find ways to short circuit those spirals into negativity. These ideas work for me. Hope they work for you!
