I just don’t get the poll numbers for President Obama – except that maybe we are all judging everything by the last 12 seconds of thoughts in our heads / TV images in our brains.
He is restructuring and reorganizing in a more fair way many institutions and situations in our lives. Are we not awake enough to know? He is an Occupy-er from way back. Not talking old rhetoric (don’t folk know communism/socialism/fascism are old words from a 20th century mindset, and that we don’t live there any more?), not attacking cold war problems, but dealing with the realities afflicting our lopsided society right now.
The student loan changes – from the first months, taking the loans away from the banks (who were getting paid by the government to make them and then by us as we paid them back), and now reducing interest rates and terms so our kids are not spending their most productive years unable to get ahead. Then trying one foreclosure plan that didn’t work so well (maybe the banks didn’t want it to?) and now trying another. Not doubling down on mistakes like the You-Know-Who party.
I am amazed that we can look straight at an issue and not see it, that we can continue to call issues by incorrect names (class warfare? it’s on the middle class!), that we are so deep in denial we will shoot ourselves in the foot rather than change. And blame that wound on Mr. Obama.
Most women I know can see and name the truth more easily than guys. Not sure why that is. Perhaps because guys see blood and shit in war. We see it in our daily lives, as we clean up the babies, the wounded, the dying.
And we can see what is being accomplished for us and for our children by this president.
