I’ve already gotten a start on holiday shopping. I often buy things here and there throughout the year, when an item looks like just the right present for x or y or z. And at the Victory of Light, I found some wonderful sox – some for my sisters, some for me, plus magnetic holiday note pads for the fridge. Plus some of Michael Fess’ meditation CDs – I love his healing music.
I’m about to place my Pomegranate order – my favorite catalog. And it includes my favorite calendar – the ECOlogical calendar – scientific and poetic, full of beauty and a deep understanding of natural cycles and seasons. And again – some for others, one definitely for me.
But – would I shop on Black Friday? I never have, and doubt I ever will. Crowds, craziness, chaos aplenty. I love to run into small and wonderful gifts in small and wonderful places. And I’m lucky enough to live very close to Indigenous and 10,000 Villages, both in O’Bryonville.
My favorite way of shopping is to wake up with an idea for a place to go in my head, pushing me. And, as it turns out, I’ll have time to go there, I’ll walk around until I see what I came for, pay for it almost always with the cash in my pocket, and be perfectly content. Works that way at Christmastime and all year ’round. Aaaaaahhhhh!
