What a great evening!? Son Brian and I went to see William Shatner / Captain Kirk at the Aronoff last night.? A real treat.
A simple set – desks at either side, a huge screen in the middle, the only prop a rolling office chair.? He started at the beginning, and worked his way through to today – 81 years later.? Some Star Trek stuff, not as much as I’d have liked.
I did end up understanding why Star Wars is just entertainment to me.? Star Trek is about a world that works – a utopia.? Star Wars is more like the Roman gladiators, more a dystopia, with a little humor thrown in.? That analogy occurred to me during a film clip – just before the Star Wars storm troopers lifted Shatner by the arms and carried him off stage, at an event honoring George Lucas.
William Shatner is very funny – I don’t know that he was during Star Trek, but he sure is now.? And his life has been full of phenomenal luck, which he clearly appreciates.? Throw in with that his love of horses, his willingness to say yes to wild and crazy opp0rtunities, and a father who was holding a place in the family business for him – and you have an excellent evening.
Two hours of Captain James Tiberius Kirk and his alter ego on stage all by himself.? And with a great and very diverse audience.? Good Times!
