The Weather, the Yard, the Season

July 5, 2012 By pgarry

We haven’t noticed yet, but each day is about 30 seconds shorter.? By late August, it will be quite noticeable.? I’ve been wondering whether, since spring was so early, and all the bulbs and perennials bloomed as much as six weeks early (the day lilies have been done for a week, when they really would normally just start blooming this week), fall might be early.

And while wandering around a while ago, I noticed that some poison ivy has started to get that blotchy patchy look it gets before turning red and dying in the fall.? That would be some good news out of this unusual and challenging summer!

I don’t think an early fall is very good for us and our vegetation either – unless it’s exceptionally long, as our spring-starting-in-February was.? But if it breaks up this infernal heat, we’ll all be cheering!
