I spent Thursday this week? – the Round of 16 for both men and women – at the W & S Open Masters Series 1000 tennis tournament out across I-71 from Kings Island.? Way fun and wonderful.
As soon as friend Diane and I arrived shortly after 10 a m, I bought a draw sheet.? Play for the day was just beginning, so as soon as we found our seats in Center Court, I got out my pen and started planning the rest of the day, figuring out which players we’d most want to see, and when each would playing on which courts.? It’s a big sprawling place, with lots going on all at one time.? (When you’re watching tennis on TV, you may think those empty seats are because the tickets weren’t sold.? Not so.? It’s just that the ticket holders maybe 6 or 7 courts away, watching their favorites play.)
American Mardy Fish was having a little trouble with opponent Radek Stepanek, so we stayed for the first set.? Once it looked like Mardy was going to make it through, we left our seats to check out the matches on the list we’d made.? We managed to spend significant time at 9 different matches (and watched several folk practice), AND got to watch Serena Williams and then Roger Federer win their matches, before we headed home after the first evening Center Court match, about 9 pm, as the rain was getting started.
When I txted my son where I was, in response to his txted question, he responded by saying ‘Awesome.? Sounds like your version of heaven.’? And indeed it is!? 😕 >
