I always picture hummingbirds as waking up on the morning of September 1, looking at their little watches, and saying – ‘Time to go!’? In reality, it’s the grown-up guy birds who take off now.? The moms and kids will leave before the 15th.? Amazing how they know.
I love the hummers. We have a good time.? If I haven’t changed the nectar in the feeders (organic sugar – 1/2 cup? + 2 cups boiling water) when it needs to be changed, or if a feeder gets empty -? I’ve had a hummer show up in the front window, with no flowers near, and just hover and stare.? So I explain to the hummer and the person I’m reading for that I’ll take care of it as soon as the reading is done.? And usually I’ve already made the nectar – just waiting for it to cool down.? The hummer will accept that for a while.? But they’ll look at their little watches, and 5 or 10 minutes later, show up in the window again.? By the third time, I just give up, ask the read-ee to be patient, and go out and re-fill the feeders.
The hummers don’t show up to say thank you!? 😕 >? But I know they are glad, and I am, too.
