It felt to me like he was going to win -? I made the point to several folk during the course of this day that he had fundamentally changed during and after his Olympic gold medal match.? He can see wins now that he couldn’t see before.
Andy Murray is my favorite player, behind Roger Federer – so Andy is my #2.? The first time I ever saw him play – maybe 6 years ago at our tournament, the W&S Masters.? He was flailing around, complaining about everything, looking like Ichabod Crane in a snit.? Lost in the first round.
By the next year, I could see the talent, but could still see that negative attitude.? He’s now well into his 20’s, and just in the last 2 years has shown his potential – by being in 4 Grand Slam finals and missing in each one.
Then came the Wimbledon final this year, against Roger.? I really wanted them both to win.? I was glad Roger made it, but could see how the loss hurt Andy – but that he also for the first time knew he could win.? It took a load off Andy’s shoulders.
He went on to win the gold – against a Roger who seemed to have no energy.? To me it was a karmic moment, a sea change.? And Andy finally took his place in the pantheon of champions.
Now, tonite – he’s sealed it.? Against a tough and feisty and grinding Djokovic / the Joker.? And against Mother Nature’s twisting winds.? Now he knows who he is.
Hurray!
