The Shadow Archetype – S. Olga Wittekind, Jungian Analyst

September 14, 2012 By pgarry

I was too tired and had way too much to do.? But it was an evening in my life, after all – and I was determined (in my left brain) and full of intuition (in my right brain) to go to the Greater Cincinnati Friends of Jung event this evening at New Thought Unity Church, up the street from me at McMillan and Grandview.? So I went.

Sr. Olga’s talk about Projection of the Shadow Archetype: Real or Imagined? was quite wonderful.? Her subtitle was a quote from Carl Jung: “Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.”? That statement, in and of itself, is pretty perfect, don’t you think?

She started out her low-keyed and humorous talk – and then called for a break in about 15 minutes – except it wasn’t 15 minutes.? It had been an hour!? She introduced us to the Golden Shadow, which I had not encountered – positive traits in the shadow that have not been recognized.? That will make for some yummy meditations!

Sr. Olga also had some wonderful exercises – she sure easily packed a lot into 2 hours.?? One exercise was to choose a pair of opposites that is causing tension in your life – let them float to conscious level, and let the dialogue begin.? For me, it was my ability to run the show, organize, lead the way – opposed by my desire for more allowing in my life, letting events come to me, gratefully receiving.

For me, I love both qualities, and would be grateful for more balance, and to allow others to exercise their leadership skills.? There was a wonderful response from Sr. and others.? So it was a wonderful pleasure-filled insightful evening.? And now I’m going to tuck my sleepy self in bed.? Nighty Night.
