President Barack Obama gave two major speeches last week, basically one after the other.? Important, beautiful, powerful speeches – virtually unnoticed.
At the Clinton Global Initiative, he told us about human trafficking, across the globe and in the US.? About how it happens, how that system works, how law enforcement often blames the victim, about how often it’s disregarded.? He gave us hope as well, pointing to cultural changes here and around the planet, in the status of women, and in seeing the real perpetrators, that are improving the situation.? He also gave us verbal portraits of girls and women right here who are being rescued from this insane viciousness – all done for money.
At the United Nations, he spoke about true democracy, about justic, about progress.? About our Ambassador Chris Stephens, just killed in Libya.? And about the marching of Libyan people to protest his murder.
As always, President Obama was clear, direct, precise – and speaking in beautiful language, to help us feel, as well as hear, the truths in these stories.
And yet because of these nutso elections, we heard almost nothing about them.? I know history will give these powerful statements the place and importance they deserve.
