Review: Mannequin Boutique – upscale and vintage

November 4, 2012 By pgarry

Yesterday afternoon was a very rainy afternoon – so friend from out of town Mary Ellen and I were not much enjoying walking around Washington Park.? And there was not much people watching to do.? Instead, we decided to check out the shopping in the Gateway Quarter of Over-the-Rhine.

I remembered that I had been intending to visit Mannequin, the new boutique just above 14th Street on Vine.? To quote the washingtonpark.org website – “Mannequin is a hip women?s clothing, accessories, art, antiques and gift boutique, featuring upscale and vintage merchandise with all proceeds going to charity. Located at 1405-1407 Vine Street.”

We wandered in, and were offered a spot to leave our dripping umbrellas.? It’s a dazzling and fun store.? Lots of shoes, lots of wonderful ball gowns – and lots of interesting and fun very wearable modern clothes and accessories – belts, jewelry, scarves.

I instantly went for the green, checking out everything in the store in my favorite color.? There was a great Givenchy suit, trimmed in mink.? A size 6, so that didn’t work.? Then a wonderful pale green leather jacket, size 4.? That definitely didn’t work.

But two wonderful pieces did – a pale green scoop neck cashmere sweater with a scallop trim (a blue green).? And a Scandinavian dressy jacket, which can also be dressed down, with interesting twists on the big lapels (yellow green).

Super fun to get great clothes and help some of my favorite charities at the same time.? They are open Friday and Saturday, all volunteers, 11 a m to 5 p m.? A very fun place to pop in to!
