So my snake, Artemis, is ready for winter.? She ate her big meal about a week ago, just passed the remains of it an hour ago, and I’ve cleaned out her terrarium – when it turns cold again tomorrow, she will likely begin her long twilight of sleep.? Chances are she won’t eat again until maybe April.? It will have to be warm-ish for a couple of weeks before she gets the munchies again.
She’s gorgeous – a corn snake, who naturally likes in the corn fields of North and South Carolina.? Artemis is orange with red blotches outlined in black, and a black and white checkerboard pattern on her underside.? She’s 4 years old, born on July 11 of 2008, and is taller than I am (5’5″).? I know she’s taller because when she sheds her skin and I stretch it out, it is longer than me.? She has a very small and beautiful head, and so must unhinge her jaw to eat.? She has a strong and thick body – not python thick – but about 2″ in diameter.
She will semi-waken to drink from time to time, but otherwise will spend her winter dreaming.? Sounds beautiful, doesn’t it?
