A visit to Jimmy G’s new restaurant on Elm Street had been on my To Do list since August or September, when it opened I knew Jimmy Gibson had been chef and then executive chef at Jeff Ruby’s many restaurants for many years.
So tonite when Carolyn and I were looking for an appropriate spot for our 2012 Christmas celebration – we decided it was time. We ordered up a parking spot right and front, and She produced it, just as requested. Carolyn and I are both lucky, and we are so lucky together that there is never anything to worry about.
The place is easy to spot – the red-lighted area on the left hand side of Elm between 4th and 5th. It’s downstairs, which is fun. The bar was busy and crowded and trendy. The dining area, lined with banquettes, is farther down the hall, comfy and quieter.
The menu was fun and wonderful, though a little light on vegetarian entrees. What I ended up with was basically a mixture of the appetizers and sides as my entree. And it was absolutely wonderful. I started with the house salad, also great. The bread and butter was great. Carolyn had the lobster bisque soup, and then the swordfish. We shared the key lime pie, while opening our presents to each other, which are always absolutely perfect.
So if you’re looking for a perfect evening – Jimmy G’s just might hit the spot! It sure did for us! : >
