Brand new – just open last Wednesday, and adding breakfast sometime next week, Eat Well Cafe & Takeaway is in the space in O’Bryonville formerly housing What’s for Dinner, much beloved by its surrounding community, and now only available through catering and some food in the Coffee Emporiums (Emporia?) around Cincinnati.
Right now, they are open from 8:30 to 7, with a beginning menu of homey comfy food. I brought home their Health Salad – baby spinach, blueberries, grape tomatoes (so tiny, and cut in half!), toasted almonds, gorgonzola (I changed that to goat cheese) and balsamic vinaigrette (on the side – I won’t use more than 2 drops – very vinegar-y). But freshly made, bright and beautiful in this winter weather. And their winter soup – butternut squash and apple soup, with herb croutons (and grilled pita on the side) was quite good.
Breakfast, when it starts, will include oatmeal, muffins, 2 quiches (one with meat, one without, evidently), housemade granola, and egg white scramble.
I’m not over the top about it, but it’s a very nice addition to the neighborhood. And I’ll be back to check it out over the coming weeks. The dining room is white tablecloths, very friendly and open, nicely set up. The servers were great, with t-shirts either saying Eat Well or having a fork on them.
There are no deli cases, though – everything is prepared to order. And it’s going to be harder to bring home enough to feed the family, as well as more expensive.
Definitely a change. We will get used to it, one way or another!
