Play Review: When the Rain Stops Falling

February 24, 2013 By pgarry

The Know has an incredible play running right now – the story is complex yet easy to follow, the staging is also complex yet easy to follow. The set is simple and yet transforms easily with each of the ever-changing scenes.

And the rain, visually and audibly, is constantly falling in a certain corner of Australia. The time is the year 2035 – just enough into the future that most people have never actually seen or eaten a fish, because they’ve disappeared.

As it’s played, there is not just one star – several actors are playing a given part at different stages, facts are revealed later and fit back into the story, heartbreaking details appear, lots of pain to go around.

And yet it is a hopeful play. Redemption is possible. Love can be claimed. And triumph. Beautifully done, and one of my favorites Nick Rose scores his own triumph.

This play will be talked about for years. So you need to see it.
