What used to be a several times a year ritual is now down to once a year – getting the carpets and couches cleaned.
And it has to happen while the humidity is low in the house, which is wintertime. So I called the guy who does this for me, and arranged to have everything done on Thursday, which is today. Which meant that I had to, yesterday and this morning, clear extraneous items out of each room, move lamps, the piano bench, dining room chairs, etc, so that Jamie can just clean and not spend time moving stuff.
And now I’m walking carefully around the edges, with the furnace turned up way higher than usual, hoping most of it is dry by tomorrow night. When I get up in the morning, I’ll shift the couches, big tables and chairs, to already dry spots, so the areas under them get dry.
And tomorrow night I’ll put it all back together – the knickknacks, afghans, books from several different parts of the house, all the dragons (there are many) and the piles of paperwork from the office, either back where they came from, or somewhere else altogether.
A chance to arrange and rearrange. All of this is perfect, because I have a group coming for a Reiki class early Saturday.
