It is definitely spring. Yesterday was the vernal equinox. The last couple of days have been appropriately sunshiny – but it is cold out there! And we haven’t had the break of a warm 60s day for weeks. It does not feel like spring at all.
And the greening up is not happening nearly as fast as it normally would. There is no green whatsoever in the asparagus bed – which grows so fast once it begins that it has been impossible to keep up with eating it. This year, I’m going to invite friends over to help cut it and eat it so that not one spear goes to waste.
It is definitely spring, though. The birds are mating, hanging out together, the migrators are returning – saw a rufous-sided towhee on Saturday, the squirrels are fairly manic, the hawk has visit several times lately.
I expect the stags will lose their antlers any day now.
