Joe Nocera has long been a national business reporter, for a number of publications, most recently the New York Times. He also takes on the NCAA fairly often, which I applaud.
He started his Daily Gun Report a short while after the Newtown Tragedy, simply looking at all the horrifying firearms news from around the country, and picking out a few to highlight each day.
The carelessness, the viciousness, the rage and paranoia, the hatred and fear of women exhibited by many domestic partners and families – it’s all there, every day, repetitively. The children murdered, usually as bystanders, are always present.
This is a very lopsided country in some ways, isn’t it? What we don’t want to see, we deny, we disbelieve, we find a way to believe that hammers are more dangerous than guns.
Love is the only answer, fear does not work for us in any way, shape or form. We’re a long way from understanding that right now. I just keep leaning forward into the shift we’re in the middle of – I know we are moving in a great direction. It just is hard to see today.
