Last Wednesday, April 3, I suddenly felt strange and knew I was getting sick. Very bad timing – one of my favorite weekends was coming up – the Victory of Light, last Saturday and Sunday. Great fun, wonderful work, and nice income.
A heavy spot in my chest was the only symptom – but I was soon at the health food store picking up oscillococcinum – a homeopathic flu remedy, a bunch of tiny pellets taken every 6 hours. I started taking it, and the illness continued on its own trajectory, now faded into the background – except for total tiredness / exhaustion and occasional dizziness.
What I wanted to do – and what I trusted to do – was cut my schedule to a minimum, and spend all available time in bed, reading wonderful mindless cozy mysteries. Luckily, late fall I had come upon a stash of Carol Higgins Clark funny and smart mysteries, and had stuck them in a closet. I was actually reading the way I used to do – a book a night. Since my brain wasn’t tired, but my body was, I realized this was an excellent solution.
Even working hard at the VoL, I continued to get better with this regimen. I’m now finishing up the last of my stash – a Diane Mott Davidson cooking mystery called Crunch Time. And I’m nearly well – perhaps just a little grouchy and more emotional than usual, but almost myself again! : >
