I made a note on an envelope about a month ago – didn’t date it, but it looks like something I probably saw in the New York Times. Might have been Charles M. Blow, who loves statistics, charts and graphs:
‘The US is the only country among the developed nations where the attainment levels of those entering the job market do not exceed the levels of those leaving the job market (retiring, mainly).’
In other words, the kids are less well educated / trained overall than their parents and grandparents. Clearly a recipe for disaster, and not that far into the future.
But of course – conservatives hate to spend money on education when they can spend it on tax cuts. Short term thinkers that they are. And not, in the long run, effectively conservative.
