One Difference Between Raccoons and Opossums

June 5, 2013 By pgarry

The raccoon and the possum that live in the woods have a lot in common – they’re basically creatures of the night, and so, when the squirrels and the birds are off-duty and not eating, those two scarf up all remaining food and keep the patio clean.

I’ve chased the possum off the patio several times – both intentionally and accidentally. Very slow, and a bit obstinate. The possum, having breakfast in broad daylight this morning, while I was in process of going in and out the back door with various kinds of food, took off like a bat when he heard the door open – disappeared in nanoseconds.

I knew theoretically that raccoons were quick – but seeing it in broad daylight was astonishing!
