My birthday on May 24 feels like ages ago now – and I didn’t stop to record the day and / or review the movie and play that I saw!
The day started off with popcorn for breakfast, as I sat and watched in 3-D the latest Star Trek movie. My friend Shirlene and I, both trekkers from way back, totally loved the whole film. We enjoyed it just for the current story, but also for the the turn about flash back in the radiation chamber, and the many insider jokes and recollections throughout the film. The king-sized tribble, after all, saves the day!
The movie was so good we stretched out the day by having lunch at Dewey’s – where I ended up with a Dewey’s glass as a gift!
During the afternoon, I wandered out to Newtown Feed, since the backyard critters were in need of sustenance. And when I mentioned I was wandering around on my birthday – Jeanne gave me a flat of marigolds! They are great at helping keep bugs out of the veggie garden, and I always scatter them around.
I came back home and got ready for dinner at Sung Korean – with son Brian, grandson Patrick and his girlfriend Alyssa, Patrick’s roommate and bff Stephen, my friend Diane and I. I always love Sung, and it’s perfect when the next thing on the list is a play at Cincinnati Shakespeare.
Brian and I wandered over to Shakes, met up with another friend, Kathleen, and added to our total count of Shakespeare plays seen – with Measure for Measure.
It was very well done – but it’s easy to see why it’s called a problem play. Serious drama and tragedy, including a rape – and lots of comedy fun, which is kind of wasted in the midst of the blackmail and general calumny.
I love the Shakespeare and the opera for the chocolate at intermission. Naturally, I had two – a Kit Kat AND a Reese’s, which has never happened before.
But after all, isn’t that what birthdays are about?
p.s. the birthday thing is winding down for another year. Only had one birthday lunch this week. : >
