The fanfare and hoopla of Wimbledon has begun – naming the seeds on Thursday, pulling the draw on Friday, crowds watching practices, preliminary matches and exhibitions on the weekend – and tomorrow, the main draw begins.
The top 4 in the Men’s Draw are the Djoker (Novak Djokovic), Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The actual 4th seed is David Ferrer, a Spaniard, who has been a bit hot, but really is not in the same class as the first four. He’s good, but not top 4 good.
I am and have been a Roger fan. But he is not who he was. And I am hating watching him bring sparks rather than a flame to his matches. It is hard even to look at the screen. Rafa seems to be bacck to his old self – he is a wonderful player, totally the opposite in style of Roger. Roger is all subtlety, grace and power. Rafa brings his inner brawler to his matches, and he is fully returned to his former self, after a 7 month layoff. I do not like The Djoker – I do not like him, Sam I Am. Andy is a fellow Celt, crafty and quick, and a gifted player. When he’s defeated, it is usually his head that loses the match for him.
Jon Wertheim of Sports Illustrated thinks the Djoker will take it. I would love to have Roger take it. I think – and my pendulum says, Andy’s going to take it. If it can’t be Roger, Andy’s my pick.
