So the new Prince of Cambridge was born today in London, to William and Kate, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. I got the news first in an email bulletin at the office from the Washington Post. A short while later, I checked the NYTimes website, for the official story from our newspaper of record.
And just a while ago, I checked the BBC on my cell phone for the British version – much fuller than the other sources. Many more pictures, and a statement from William / the Duke that they ‘could not be happier’. The little family is staying in the hospital overnight. The Prince of Wales / Prince Charles said that he and his Duchess were “overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment”. Actually, Charles, who looks rather dour, went on for several paragraphs.
Comments from the Prime Minister, and the First Ministers of Scotland and Wales. Much more fun than reading the American papers.
And of course, I’m just not into television news – on and on, so repetitive. And often with images of violence and anger that I just do not want in my brain. So I’ve missed all that hype about the baby, but really enjoyed the BBC’s version.
