That’s my hierarchy of what life is about, and where we are supposed to be each minute – somewhere on that continuum. And never lower than Fun!
I have spent lots of time over a long time, thinking, philosophizing, considering, ruminating ideas about the meaning of life. I am just not able to accept the ruling beliefs about why we are here, and what life is for.
I know all major religions, including Buddhism, are based on suffering. Actually, they are all mostly based on fear, and having rules to follow, actions to perform to control the fear, to enable us to control ourselves, and to enable these beliefs and organizations to control us. (Many talk about love – but it’s very hard to see, not much evidence of love in any religious system.) And the idea of suffering as the basis of life might have been true, though I doubt it. But since we believed it was true, and acted like fear, hate, misery, sorrow, sin were real, they were real and controlled our lives.
My notion goes back to the first religion, the love and model of The Goddess, The Great Mother, She who gave birth to the world and then took care of it. The first cities were not walled. They were full of art. This continued for a long time. Until beliefs about being higher, being on top, and then being obeyed arose.
So I know we can go back to the Good Old Days. Let’s make today’s life Fun, Happy, Joyful and Blissful.
What I’ve taken to saying is that those beliefs are sooooo 20th century. And we are now in the 21st century. We don’t have to choose that any more.
