I guess my habit of reading only Christmas mysteries from Thanksgiving til after New Year’s is now carrying over to other holidays. I just finished my first Irish mystery, and have 2 more to go. Where will it all end? I’m always eager to find out, when I get on kicks like this! : >
Scandal in Skibbereen, subtitled a County Cork Mystery, is by Sheila Connolly, and is the second in her new series. I’d never heard of her before, and will soon check out the library catalog to see if her first, Buried in a Bog, is available from them. And perhaps take a look at her other series.
This book is best at letting us look at the Irish countryside, wander the lanes, perhaps get lost, listen in on the conversation at the pub(lic house), and note the relationships between the pub goers and the gentry.
Connolly is a pretty good writer and a pretty good plotter, has a good sense of characters and does them well. The dialogue is almost always quite real. So – very enjoyable, B+.
