The Mockingbird

March 29, 2014 By pgarry

I saw a fast bird yesterday at the feeder – and way too big for the cylinder feeder. Nondescript grayish brownish was all I could see – until he or she flew off – flashes of white everywhere. Then, landing, I could see a white stripe on the wings. Magpie and mockingbird came to mind – I’ve never gotten them quite straight.

Google let me see them both instantly – the magpie is much more dramatic just standing still. So this big new resident is a mocker. Can’t wait to listen. Tomorrow should be sunny and cool – the yard will be more hospitable than today’s rain and then snow.

I wonder whether s/he will be willing to just walk around on the patio eating breakfast….. and let me get a really good look!
