This summer, the backyard has not received the attention it usually does. So there are pockets of organized beauty, but it is mostly the wild and tangled beauty that is out there.
I am getting ready to put it to bed. Can’t mow down the wild green asparagus cloud until after a frost, when all those feathery stalks turn tan and crackly. But the herb garden will probably be organized this weekend, with lots of overgrown stuff ending up on the compost heap – which will then need to be turned.
And I’ll turn lots of stuff under into the garden, clean out the overgrown collards, to leave room from the ones still growing, and weed the new kale, lettuces and spinach.
Another trip to my 3 favorite garden stores is coming up, too – more kale perhaps, and maybe some flowering kale, pansies, chrysanthemums.
The peonies need to be cut back, almost time for the phlox to be trimmed – and the raking will continue for quite a while! : > I love the fall! Playing the leaves, playing outside – it’s so good!
